गौरोऽहमस्मि जननी तव चापि गौरी
त्वं काकतुल्य इति जल्पति नन्दताते ।
पिष्टं पयश्च सरुषं स्वतनौ विलिम्पन्
चित्तेऽस्तु मे कृतकगौरशिशुः सदैव ॥वसन्ततिलकम्॥
gauro'ham asmi jananī tava cāpi gaurī
tvaṁ kāka-tulya iti jalpati nanda-tāte
piṣṭaṁ payaś ca saruṣaṁ sva-tanau vilimpan
citte'stu me kṛtaka-gaura-śiśuḥ sadaiva
"I'm fair-complexioned and so is your mother. You on the other hand are as dark as a crow" — when Nanda Mahārāja poked fun at him in this way, he angrily started rubbing flour and milk on his body. May that child who now appears artificially fair due to such rubbing reside always in my heart.
